Moosomin Regional Park will be hosting Winter Wonderland this Sunday, Feb. 2. The event includes sleigh rides, dog sled rides, a fishing derby, hot dogs and hot chocolate.
Eagle Ridge Dog Sleds will be providing rides from 10 am to 4 pm that day for a cost of $20 a ride.
Sleigh rides will be from 1-4 pm for a cost of $10 a ride. Kids five and under get to ride for free.
There will also be hot dogs and hot chocolate on hand for a cost of $5.
The fishing derby runs from 11 am to 2 pm with registration starting at 10 am. The cost is $20 for one hole or $30 for two holes.
The park is asking people to bring cash for all events, as it is a cash-only event.
“A lot of people think the park a place to go in the summer, and it’s nice to showcase what it can offer in the wintertime,” said Moosomin & District Regional Park committee member Karen Hebert.
All events will be held at the marina this year to accomodate parking for a large number of people.
“The last one we had was around 300 people, so we’re hoping for a few more,” Hebert said. “That’s why we had to change the location, because we couldn’t accommodate the parking on the road last time. We needed a larger area for the parking.”
Hebert says getting out and experiencing the outdoors in the winter is sometimes a first for people.
“The last one that we did, we had to show some people how to roast a hot dog over an open fire,” Hebert recalls. “They’ve never had that experience before!”
Money raised from the event goes back into the park to cover expenses, but it also serves as a showcase to people from outside the region as to what the Moosomin & District Regional Park has to offer.
“There are lots of people that come to this in the winter time that I’ve never seen at the park in the summertime,” Hebert said.
