Construction started on Little Miners Daycare

It’s full steam ahead for the Little Miner’s Community Daycare in Esterhazy, after getting the green light to proceed with renovation work at their space in the Esterhazy High School.

“Our building permits have been approved, and our crew has started construction,” says board chair Marissa Porter. “If all goes well, we hope to be up and running sometime this year. Renovation could take up to six months, depending on how everything goes.”

TIMCO Construction from Churchbridge has been awarded the general contract on the project, and has started work.

“I actually visited the daycare today,” said Melville-Saltcoats MLA Warren Kaeding in an interview last week, noting the project is “looking really exciting.”

Supporting local is important to the daycare, and a way to return the generosity Little Miners has received.

“We are using all local construction crews and local trades people for everything so we are trying to support our local businesses as well,” Porter said.

Along with construction, the daycare is working hard to reach their fundraising goal.

“We have set a goal to raise $500,000, and to date we have raised $114,500,” Porter said. “The money that is raised by donation, sponsorship, and grants will be put toward filling our space with furniture, learning materials, arts and craft supplies, building our outdoor play space, office supplies, cleaning supplies, operational costs which include rent, bills, groceries and any other costs associated with operating.”
