Carry the Kettle Chief Scott Eashappie charged with fraud, theft, money laundering, and breach of trust

The File Hills First Nations Police Service has arrested Chief Scott Eashappie, age 37, of Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation as part of an ongoing financial investigation. Easchappie is charged with Fraud, Theft, Money Laundering, and Breach of Trust.

He is scheduled to appear in Indian Head Provincial Court on May 6, 2025. The charges are:

1) By deceit, falsehood, or fraudulent means, defraud Carry the Kettle FN treaty land entitlement trust, in an amount exceeding $5000 contrary to section 380(1)(a) of the Criminal Code

2) Steal money the property of Carry the Kettle FN treaty land entitlement of a value exceeding $5000 contrary to section 334 of the Criminal Code

3) Being a trustee of funds for the use or benefit of Carry the Kettle FN treaty land entitlement trust did convert the funds or any portion thereof to defraud and in contravention of his trust, to a use that is not authorized by the trust contrary to section 336 of the Criminal Code, and

4) Use, transfer the possession of, send to, alter, dispose of or otherwise deal with property or proceeds was obtained or derived directly or indirectly from the commission of a designated offence wit: fraud, or criminal breach of trust, contrary to section 462.31 of the Criminal Code
