Gordon Leverne Orr was born December 1, 1937, in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan to John and Verna Orr. He was the 6th of 10 kids. He was raised in the Lloydminster area until he moved to Welwyn, Saskatchewan in 1957 to work on the Frank Johnson farm. Gordon worked for Frank and Evelyn for 17 years—and it was during this time that he met his future bride—Myrna Ward— who was also working at the time for Frank and Evelyn Johnson.

They were married in March, 1962 and lived in Welwyn where they eventually purchased the Ward family farm in 1963. Here they raised five of their children—Kevin, Kim, Keith, Kelvin and Kathy. They had many great times in Welwyn with their family, friends and neighbors.

In the spring of 1974, they purchased Gordon’s uncle’s farm in the Willen District. Here they completed their family by adding Kyla to their clan. They remained on the farm until 1996 when they moved into Elkhorn. Not ready to retire yet, Gordon started working for Jim Martin Livestock where he enjoyed working with Martin Livestock for eight years.

In 2019, Kyla and her husband Chris returned to Elkhorn and purchased Myrna and Gordon’s house and they moved into their trailer on the other side of town. This location was close to the rink and was on the road to school—so that all the grandchildren could wave to them on their way to school or pop in for a visit on the way home.

In the spring of 2024, they moved to Bolton Place apartments in Virden for a short time. They then returned home to Elkview Lodge in December of 2024—just in time for Christmas with all their family!

Gordon loved the outdoor life and enjoyed working with his cattle and horses. He also enjoyed all the large family get togethers—playing cards and games and always joining in to make all the grandkids’ day, with his teasing and comments—and of course always playing by his “Orr house rules!” He especially enjoyed all the visits from his grandkids and great grandkids and listening to all their stories. He had the best sense of humor and was always singing or sharing a story or a one-liner of some sort with them as well. In winter, he was a permanent fixture at the rink, enjoying all the Senior hockey and especially his grandkids’ hockey games. He loved baseball and you could count on him sitting behind home plate and heckling the umps and possibly telling his grandkids to run a little faster.

Gordon was a very proud family man and will be missed by us all.

Gordon passed away suddenly on March 10, 2025, in Elkhorn.

He is survived by his wife Myrna of 63 years; Kevin (Wendy), Kim (Garth), Keith (Brenda), Kelvin (Lee), Kathy, Kyla (Chris); 19 grandkids and 19 great-grandkids; sisters, Audrey, Shirley, Gayle (Colin); in-laws, Russel and Ethel, Larry and Ada, Pat and Joe and numerous nieces and nephews.
