Plans are starting to firm up for the Living Skies Come Alive Fireworks competition.
Planned for the August long weekend at Moosomin Regional Park, organizer Kyle Jeannot said last week they have determined that the competition will be between Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Two separate shows will be held on Saturday, August 2 and Sunday, August 3 of the August long weekend at Moosomin Regional Park, with fireworks being set off over Moosomin Lake.
This is the first time the fireworks competition has been held since 2019. Previously it drew tens of thousands of people to Moosomin Regional Park.
“Everything is still in early planning but there has been lots of great response from people interested in the event,” said Jeannot. “We already have people calling trying to book a camp site for that weekend. I just want to give people a friendly reminder that they have to wait until ‘Let’s Camp’ opens in March to book.
“The fireworks will be a two-night event with the plan for an Alberta and Saskatchewan competition on August 2 and August 3.
“There will be kids’ activities both days and a market on one of the days. We have already had two vendors confirm as soon as they saw the poster and we have one food truck booked.
“We will also have a band and beer gardens Saturday and Sunday night.”
The event is a fundraiser for Moosomin Regional Park.
Jeannot said the main thing the park is needing now is for people to step up and lend a hand volunteering for that weekend.
“If any groups are looking to lend a hand with helping out at the events throughout the day and evening, that would be great!” he said. “The biggest need is for volunteers to help with parking.”
Jeannot said a committee is being formed to plan the event this year, and if anyone wants to join that committee they are welcome.
“If people want get involved, we could definitely take names. It would definitely be a lot easier having people in charge of certain areas,” he says.
