Universe Satellite has donated $50,000 to the new Rocanville Indoor Pool. The large contribution has earned Universe Satellite naming rights for the new facility, which will be called the Universe Satellite
Aquatic Centre.
The new facility began construction last fall and is on track to open late this coming fall. Ian Langley of Universe Satellite in Rocanville says the pool is a hub for the community.
“It’s great for the community. My Mom used to work at it and my wife used to work here—swimming is important for all the kids and families in town. The kids should all know how to swim, so it is going to be great for the community.” Stan Langley of Universe Satellite says the donation came at the best time.
“I talked to Steve yesterday, and he said it came in perfect timing—they were going to be epoxying the deck soon which they didn’t have the money to do. So it was going to be put towards doing the epoxy finish on the deck as well.”
Donations welcome
Rocanville’s Rec Director, Andrea Logan, says the community is still fundraising for the new indoor pool.
“We’re still actively fundraising. The next event is going to be the big Grand Opening event that we’re hoping to do later this fall. We are currently working on that. I would say everything is going according to plan right now with the pool and opening.”
Community excited
Stan Langley says the community is excited to fi ally see the new facility open.

“I think more and more people are talking about it now. I think everybody is quite excited about it.
“It’s going to bring in people into town like the old days. There are people coming from all over the place for swimming lessons. They’re coming from the colonies, Birtle, McAuley, and Elkhorn. So there are a lot of places that come for swimming lessons here and I think the kids that are in lessons are doing extremely well. We have done pretty good in the swimming competitions this year.”
Kelsey Selby adds, “Emma Errington broke one of the records for 25-metre fl y, and then Amiyah Spencer got three golds and a silver so far. We’ve already got resumes rolling in and sign-ups in courses for the pool as well.”
Great for region
Langley says the pool generates traffic for the town’s businesses.
“It will make a huge difference—when people come here they’re going to bring their kids for swimming lessons and they’re going to go shopping downtown, they are going to go look at other things too around the community.
“I think what’s good for the community is good for the surrounding communities too because people from Moosomin can come over and come swimming. We travel there as well. It’s a whole community system. So we can benefit the whole community, just not Rocanville but the region.” Tweet
