RM of Elcapo makes donation to Kipling airport

The RM of Elcapo will be making a donation to the Kipling airport after the town wrote to a number of municipalities in the region asking for support for upgrades to the airport.
At Kipling town council on Monday night, it was reported that the RM will be donating $5,000 to the airport. The RM also told the town that they will be looking at doing an annual donation for the airport moving forward.
Kipling applied for the provincial Community Airport Partnership (CAP) grant this year, but was not successful in their application. The town is planning to do some upgrades to the runway, including paving.
Report on Residents Supper
Mayor Pat Jackson reported that this year’s Residents Supper on March 30 was a bit smaller than usual this year, but she was impressed by the presentation by the Saskatchewan Housing Authority at the supper. The Housing Authority talked about some of the units that are available in Kipling.
Hot tub repairs and culverts
As part of the rec report, it was reported that two companies are looking at quoting for repairs to the hot tub which needs some of its drains repaired, and work on the fiberglass so that the hot tub can be operational for the pool season.
The town is looking at replacing some of the culverts under the railroad tracks with larger culverts and is seeking quotes from two different engineering firms for the project as part of an application to CN.
Smokey Skies BBQ Competition getting ready for June 19-20
The Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned Smokey Skies BBQ Competition will be held in Kipling again this year on June 19-20. Council was contacted by the organizers about parking for the event which will be held where the town’s outdoor rink is located.
Hot dog sale for KidSport
A hot dog sale will be held in the town office parking lot on May 22 from 11 am to 1:30 pm as a fundraiser for KidSport. The group says they are looking for some volunteers to help out with the sale.
